Bishop Tyrone McCombs
Bishop Tyrone W. McCombs is a second generation member of the Church of God in Christ and is the son of the late Charles and Mary Wilbon-McCombs. Bishop McCombs was raised in Miller’s Temple Church of God in Christ in Palmyra, New Jersey and the Camden District under the leadership of the late District Superintendent George and Mother Martha Miller. From youth to adulthood, Bishop McCombs was very involved in the Local, District and Jurisdictional work as a Sunshine Band Member, Boys League member, Usher, Choir Member and Director, Local YPWW Secretary, and at an early age of 17, Bishop McCombs received his first Jurisdictional appointment by the late Bishop Esau Courtney and former Supervisor of Women, Mother Lucille Bazemore-Spann as the President of the State Boy’s League of New Jersey First Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction.
Since the early stages of the South Jersey Ecclesiastical Jurisdictional, Bishop McCombs has served in various leadership positions such as an Administrative Assistant and Chief Operating Officer under the founder Bishop Curley Guidry and as Second Administrative Assistant and Chief Operating Officer under Bishop Hillmon Moses. Bishop McCombs has been a member of Tabernacle of Faith COGIC in Camden, NJ for over 24 years where Elder Thomas E. May is currently the Pastor. For over 21 years Bishop McCombs served under the late Bishop Moses as Executive Assistant to the Pastor, Secretary of the Board of Trustees, Church Secretary and Administrator for the church’s State of New Jersey Historic Grant for restoration and various other administrative positions.
During the 2015 Convocation of the Jurisdiction, under the leadership of General Board member, Bishop Frank O. White, Bishop McCombs was recommended by the Pastors to serve as the next Jurisdictional Prelate. Bishop McCombs was consecrated as the Jurisdictional Bishop during the 2015 Church of God in Christ Holy Convocation in St. Louis, Missouri by Bishop Charles E. Blake, Chief Apostle and Presiding Bishop.
The importance of education was instilled in Bishop McCombs by his parents who made many personal sacrifices to provide instruction, guidance and support. Bishop McCombs attended Rutgers University and obtained a Bachelor and Master’s Degrees in English Literature and continued his studies and earned a PhD in Higher Education Management and Administration from the prestigious University of Pennsylvania. Bishop McCombs attributes his academic achievements to his faith in God and following the Lord throughout his life.
For over 23 years, Bishop McCombs has been working as an administrator in higher education in various roles including Associate Vice President, Assistant Provost and Dean as well as a tenured Professor.
Dr. McCombs has been very happily married for 20 years to Lady Katrina Young-McCombs, who is a Director at the Office of Early Childhood Education in Camden, NJ. Bishop and Lady McCombs are the proud parents of two daughters Tyra Faith and Nia Hope McCombs.
Most importantly, Bishop McCombs loves the Lord and has given his life to the Lord. His favorite scripture is Proverbs 3: 5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

Lady Katrina's life is a living example of this scripture.
Born and raised in Camden, New Jersey, Lady Katrina accepted the Lord Jesus as her personal savior at the tender age of 7. She was baptized and received her Christian foundation at Antioch Baptist Church in Camden, NJ, where she served as a member of the Junior Choir, Junior Usher Board, and Sunday School secretary.
Lady Katrina has been a member of the Tabernacle of Faith for the past 22 years, where she has served as a Sunday School Teacher, Praise & Worship Leader and Choir member. It is under the leadership of the late Bishop Hillmon Moses that she received the Baptism of the Holy Ghost and was introduced to the power of prayer and intercession on the Noonday Altar.
Currently Lady Katrina serves as First Lady of the South Jersey Jurisdiction COGIC, where her husband of 20 years, Bishop Tyrone W. McCombs is the Jurisdictional Prelate. Together, they have two beautiful daughters--Tyra Faith and Nia Hope McCombs.
Lady Katrina was educated in the Camden Public School System and graduated with honors from Camden High School in 1987. Katrina continued her educational studies at the following institutions of higher learning: Lehigh University (BA in Behavioral and Neurosciences); Teachers College, Columbia University (MA and MEd. in Psychological Counseling); and Rutgers University (MPA in Educational Leadership).
In addition to serving the Lord, Lady Katrina is a public servant in the field of Public education. Lady Katrina has served in several capacities in the Camden City School District throughout her 23 year tenure including: Kindergarten Teacher, 7th/8th Grade Literacy Teacher, Comer Whole School Reform Facilitator, Literacy Coach, Vice-Principal and Principal of Lanning Square Family School and Director of Early Childhood Education. Currently, she serves the Camden City School District as the Superintendent of Schools.
