The Life and Legacy of Bishop Hillmon MosesBishop Hillmon Moses was born in Timmonsville, South Carolina and came from a legacy of preachers and
workers in the Ministry of the Lord on April 24, 1936. The son of a preacher, Reverend Tillmon Moses and mother, Sarah Richardson Moses, he along with his siblings served in the ministry. Bishop Moses has been an active member of the Church of God in Christ for over 40 years. Bishop Moses and his family served as members and leaders of Tabernacle of Faith Church, COGIC. During the early years of the Tabernacle, Bishop served as an Usher, Member of the Board of Trustees, Chairman of the Board of Deacons, Vice Chairman of Board of Trustees, Minister, Elder, Assistant Pastor and for the past 21 years as Pastor. In addition to his work in the church, Bishop Moses was also an entrepreneur and owned a private business. For over 35 years, Bishop was a successful landscaper and owner of Babb’s Landscaping in South Jersey. He contracted for many South Jersey Landmarks. Bishop met the love of his life Mother Margaret B. Moses over 57 years ago. Bishop and Mother Moses are the proud parents of two sons Maurice and Kevin and daughter Tracey. They were also proud grandparents and great-grandparents. Throughout the years, they instilled the importance of the Lord in the lives of their children. On Saturday June 11, 1994 Bishop Moses was appointed Pastor of the historic Tabernacle of Faith Church by Bishop Benjamin J. Ravenel who was then Chairman of Board of Superintendents under the authority of Bishop O.T. Jones Jr., the Jurisdictional Prelate of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Jurisdiction. After being appointed as Pastor, Bishop Moses utilized his expertise in contracting and construction and began to renovate the 120 year-old brownstone building. As a registered National and State historic Property, Tabernacle of Faith Church received a generous grant to preserve its historic beauty. Bishop Moses and two of his closest friends worked as approved contractors by the State of New Jersey (which was unheard of in the history of New Jersey Historic grant records) to restore the building. Over the years he climbed on the old roof over 10 stores high and placed a new roof – shingle by shingle with is own hands, as well as other areas of the building. As a result of the work of Bishop Moses, he was awarded a National Historic Preservation Award during one of the annual conferences in Philadelphia. Bishop Moses was one of the founding members of the South Jersey Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction under the late Bishop Curley Guidry Sr. In the beginning of our Jurisdiction, Bishop Guidry announced that he was appointing “…a man of wisdom to lead the Pastors and Elders of our Jurisdiction.” Bishop served as the founding Chairman of the Pastors and Elders Council until the demise of the Jurisdictional Leader. Bishop Hillmon Moses was consecrated as Jurisdictional Prelate in in November 2012 during the Church of God in Christ International Holy Convocation. It was evident that our Founding Jurisdictional Prelate, Bishop Curley Guidry, Sr., had the foresight and wisdom to select a man to leader the Pastors and Elders who would one day become a good and qualified leader for the saints of the South Jersey Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction and a respected bishop in the Church of God in Christ. Bishop Moses was a faithful and loyal husband to his devoted wife of 57 years Mother Margaret B. Moses who will cherish his love and protection. He also leaves to carry his legacy his children Maurice (Claudia), Kevin (Lynette) and Tracey (Robert). Bishop was a proud grandfather of Gregory, Allen, Mercede, Anthony, Angelica, Niquel, Timothy, jasmine, Darrell, Destiney and Robert and equally caring for his great-grandchildren Nyle’Sincere, Bryce, Danaizah, Couture and Jyden. A supportive brother was Bishop Moses to his siblings Mother Annease Jones, Bishop Hazel (Wilma) Moses, Bishop Hester Moses, Co-Pastor Corrine Bethea and Pastor Naomi Bethea and brothers-in- laws Archie (Doris) Sullivan and Irvin (Gloria) and sister-in- law Pam(Willie) Dickson and Evangelist Barbara Chalk. As a pastor and Servant, Bishop Moses will always be remembered by his longtime friend Elder Thomas E. May who he appointed, prior to his passing, to succeed him as Pastor along with the members of Tabernacle of Faith whom he loved dearly and his supportive members of South Jersey Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction and a host of family and friends. On Friday May 29, 2015 Bishop Hillmon Moses was given the ultimate promotion to heaven. |
