SENIOR PASTOR THOMAS MAY
Pastor Thomas E. May was born in Camden, New Jersey, raised in Cherry Hill, NJ and was educated in the Cherry Hill School System, where he excelled in athletics. His athletic ability awarded him a scholarship to Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York. He graduated in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He then attended American Academy McAllister Institute of Funeral Service from which he graduated in 1969.
Pastor May met and fell in love with a beautiful young lady named Hazel W. Williams and they were joined in Holy Matrimony in 1969. That year, he also enlisted in the US Army, and served as the Operations Officer for Mortuary in Europe. He was stationed in Germany in the early years of their marriage and they returned to New Jersey to start their family. From their union, God blessed them with five children, who continue to be the delight of their lives.
Pastor May owns and operates the May Funeral Homes in Camden, NJ, Pennsauken, NJ, Vineland, NJ, Willingboro, NJ, Sicklerville, NJ and Philadelphia, PA. Pastor May, a first generation funeral director, started the May Funeral Home in 1975 with First Lady May. May Funeral Homes, Inc. continues to be a family owned business, as she and three of his children, Tyrone, Tina and Toni run the business with him.
Pastor May has served as Investigator for the Camden County Medical Examiner’s Office and is currently a member of the National Funeral Directors and Morticians Association, the National Funeral Directors Association, the New Jersey State Funeral Directors Association and the Garden State Funeral Directors Association.
Pastor May served the Tabernacle of Faith Church, Inc. COGIC faithfully for over 35 years. He held numerous positions through the years such as Praise and Worship Leader, Church Administrator, 2nd Assistant Pastor, Assistant Pastor, and Trustee Board Member. Pastor May was a member of the South Jersey Jurisdiction COGIC since its inception. He faithfully served under the leadership of Bishop C. Guidry as the Expeditor, after the passing of Bishop Guidry, he served under Bishop H. Moses until his passing. Pastor May also serves as the Treasurer of the International Council of Pastors and Elders of the Church of God in Christ (COGIC) and is on their Executive Board.
Inspired by Luke 12:48, “To whom much is given, much is required”, Pastor and First Lady May regularly participate in philanthropic endeavors to various organizations and churches in Camden and the surrounding areas. They fund scholarships given through San Juan Baptista, Lindenwold High School, Refreshing Springs COGIC in Laurel, Maryland, Bethany Baptist Church in Lindenwold, NJ to name a few. In 2009, they pledged a lifetime gift of $10,000 a year to Rowan University to assist underprivileged students. They also sponsor an orphanage in the Dominican Republic.
Pastor May is the proud father of five children: Tyrone May, Sr., Tonya Avent (Kenneth), Terri Levy (Willie), Tina May and Toni May-Jervey (Tyrone); grandfather of nine: Jasmyne, Tyrone Jr., Tiffany, Kennedi Avent, William Levy, Tarralyn Berry, Kassadi Avent, Whitney Levy and Tyler Jervey and great-grandfather of Jalen.
Pastor May received the ultimate promotion and transitioned into heaven in 2022.

MOTHER HAZEL MAY
Hazel W. May was born in Camden, New Jersey. She was raised in Lindenwold and graduated from Overbrook Regional High School in 1964. She graduated from Glassboro State College (now Rowan University) in 1968,with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Physical Education.
She married Thomas E. May in 1969 and from this union five children were born. After graduating from college, Mrs. May taught Physical Education & Health at Edgewood Regional High School, Frankford Jr. High in Frankford, Germany and Overbrook Jr. High School. Mrs. May retired in 2003 from Lindenwold High School after 34 years teaching. During her teaching career Mrs. May coached various sports teams which include: basketball, field hockey, tennis, cross country and track.
Since her retirement, Mrs. May has worked for May Funeral Homes, Inc. as the office manager. May Funeral Homes, Inc. is a family run business owned by Mrs. May and her husband Thomas. Prior to her retirement she worked with the family business on nights and weekends and whenever she could assist.
Mrs. May has been a member of Tabernacle of Faith COGIC, Camden, NJ since 1981. She is very active at her local church. In addition to her role as first lady she currently serves as Sunday School Superintendent, Director of the Scholarship Department, President of the Sisters of Charity. She formerly served as a member of the greeters, The Mass Choir and Co-Leader of the Married Couple Ministries.
